Many credit Californian Ann Baker with developing the Ragdoll breed of cat in the 1960s. A product of selective breeding, Ragdolls emerged from the mixing of a white Persian and a Birman, and they earned the name from their tendency to become limp when being held. Moreover, different breeds of Ragdolls have formed, including the mink and the solid.

Although very rare, mink Ragdolls were among the first types of these felines developed by Baker. Compared to other Ragdolls, they have softer, darker, and more intense fur, but they possess the same mild temperament as traditional ones do. Solid Ragdolls are distinctive because they feature one single color across their entire body, though their points, as in their ears, noses, and tails, are darker hued. However, they come in a myriad of shades including lilac, red, calico, and chocolate.
