Caring For Your Kitten

By Bailey’s Ragdolls

There are a lot of factors that go into raising a cat, especially when that cat is as young and fragile as a kitten:

Feeding: For very young kittens without access to their mother’s milk, consult a veterinarian who can advise you on the best milk replacers and teach you how to bottle feed. As the kitten gets older, introduce moist, easily chewable food into her diet.

Litter box training: At four to six weeks old, kittens begin using the litter box on their own with proper training. Up until that point, remember to place your new pet in the litter box after meals, after naps, or any time you think she may need to go until she gets used to it.

Vaccines: Kittens and cats are susceptible to a number of diseases and must be vaccinated. A veterinarian can decide which vaccines will best serve the kitten according to lifestyle and location.

Bailey’s Ragdolls Discusses First Steps in Taking Care of a Kitten

Adopting a kitten is a major responsibility, regardless of the caretaker’s age or experience. When raising a young cat, there are several tips that one should follow to provide the kitten with the most positive environment.

When a kitten enters one’s home for the first time, it will probably be nervous of its new surroundings. A good owner should learn how to ease its fears, teach it about its new residence, and make sure that it does not wander off unsupervised. Another important element involves buying the kitten its own things. Crucial items include toys and a litter box. Food is another essential purchase, and owners should make sure that they acquire specially formulated kitten food rather than adult cat food. Many recommend keeping all of these key objects in one location, as kittens grow more comfortable having their own personal space. Additionally, spending quality time with the cat and showing it love and affection serves as another way to bond and welcome the pet into one’s family.

Mink and Solid Ragdoll Kittens

By Bailey’s Ragdolls

Many credit Californian Ann Baker with developing the Ragdoll breed of cat in the 1960s. A product of selective breeding, Ragdolls emerged from the mixing of a white Persian and a Birman, and they earned the name from their tendency to become limp when being held. Moreover, different breeds of Ragdolls have formed, including the mink and the solid.

Although very rare, mink Ragdolls were among the first types of these felines developed by Baker. Compared to other Ragdolls, they have softer, darker, and more intense fur, but they possess the same mild temperament as traditional ones do. Solid Ragdolls are distinctive because they feature one single color across their entire body, though their points, as in their ears, noses, and tails, are darker hued. However, they come in a myriad of shades including lilac, red, calico, and chocolate.
